“When I was young, I was obsessed with the study of archaeology, anthropology and art – the tangible artifacts left behind by those who came before us. I immersed myself in history. I was enamored with philosophy. I was devoted to aesthetics and comparative mythology. The chronology of humankind and the universal mind. The rise and fall and destiny of societies and cultures. I was inquisitive and curious, almost to a fault, and driven by the need to know the world in which I live."
About Raymond F. Vennare
Deeply influenced by the teachings of Josef Albers, the intellectualism of Robert Motherwell and the fundamental ethos of abstract expressionism, Raymond F. Vennare is equally well versed in the aesthetic philosophies of modernism, postmodernism and contemporary art. An academically trained artist and art historian, with an intuitive understanding of archaeology and anthropology, Raymond’s continually evolving body of work acknowledges these formative artistic movements and pays homage to the excavated history of those who came before us.
As a painter and multi-disciplinary artist, Raymond translates his understanding of these philosophical, cultural and aesthetic influences into visual metaphor and conceptual representation. The color, scale, texture and composition of his paintings are both experiential and introspective; tactile but ethereal.
Born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Raymond earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Pittsburgh and holds graduate degrees from Case Western Reserve University and Duquesne University. His work is in private collections throughout the United States and in Europe.
